Black Friday is not one big sale. It is thousands of small ones, and only some of them are real. Certain categories reliably get meaningful discounts every year, while others are marked down by a token amount or are cheaper in January anyway.
This is our shortlist of what is actually worth waiting for, the specific products we would watch, and what to skip.
How we chose
Categories with a track record. Adobe’s holiday data for 2025 showed electronics with the deepest online discounts of the season, followed by toys, apparel, computers and TVs. We started there.
Products people already want. Every pick here is a well-reviewed, popular model, so a discount is worth something. An obscure brand at 60% off is not a deal if you would never have bought it.

Amazon’s own gadgets have been among the most heavily discounted items of Black Friday week in recent years. If one of these is on your list, this is usually the week to buy it.

Anything launched in the last few months. Brand-new phones, consoles and gadgets rarely get meaningful discounts in their first holiday season.
Holiday decorations. Trees, lights and ornaments are usually cheapest in the days after Christmas.
Winter coats and boots. End-of-season clearance in January tends to beat November prices.
Something you need today. If the dishwasher broke, buy the one you need. Waiting three weeks to save a little rarely pays off.
Buyer’s tips
Make your list now. Decide what you want before the ads start, so the deals serve your list and not the other way around.
Check the price history. A “deal” can be the normal price with a higher number crossed out. Our fake deals guide shows how to check.
Watch the whole week. In recent years Amazon’s Black Friday event has run for more than a week and ended on Cyber Monday, so you do not have to buy at midnight.

When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday is Friday, November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30. Many retailers start their deals a week or more before.
Are Black Friday deals really the lowest prices of the year?
Not always. The UK consumer group Which? found that about eight in ten Black Friday deals it tracked were the same price or cheaper at other times of the year. That is why checking price history matters.
What category usually has the best discounts?
Electronics. Adobe’s data for the 2025 season showed electronics with the deepest online discounts, at around 31% off at the peak on Cyber Monday.
